Tectonic Engineering is thrilled to announce our recognition in the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Awards program for five outstanding projects!
These awards highlight our dedication to innovation, resilience, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions across diverse sectors. We are proud of our teams for their hard work and commitment to shaping a better future through engineering excellence.
Hall Interlocking Expansion: Bridging the Future of LIRR’s Jamaica Station

The Hall Interlocking Expansion project is a cornerstone of the Long Island Rail Road’s Jamaica Capacity Improvements Program and represents the most significant upgrade to Jamaica Station since its original construction in 1913. As Project Management Consultant for the $150 million Design-Build initiative, Tectonic delivered comprehensive project management and construction oversight services that will redefine operational capabilities at one of the nation’s busiest commuter rail hubs, serving more than 200,000 passengers daily.
Tectonic pioneered the first-ever use of the Incremental Bridge Launching installation methodology on MTA property. This advanced Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) method allowed the new 150th Street double-track rail bridge to be assembled at the bridge approach and launched into position without large cranes, dramatically reducing construction time and completely avoiding any service disruptions.
The project required unprecedented collaboration among LIRR, NYC Department of Transportation, and MTA Construction & Development. Tectonic developed innovative coordination protocols to maintain full railroad operations during construction while achieving the first fundamental capacity increase at Jamaica Station in over 110 years, eliminating century-old routing conflicts and improving service reliability.
Beyond technical excellence, the Hall Interlocking Expansion enhances regional mobility, supports economic development, and promotes sustainability by encouraging a shift from automobile dependence to public transit. These improvements will benefit communities across Long Island and Queens for decades to come.
This award underscores Tectonic’s commitment to innovation and excellence in delivering complex infrastructure projects. We are proud to set new benchmarks for accelerated construction and operational continuity in one of the most challenging transit environments in the country. The ACEC NY Diamond Award recognizes projects that demonstrate engineering excellence, innovation, and societal impact—qualities that define Tectonic’s approach to every engagement.
PHL Airport Wetland Mitigation: Ecological Resilience and Restoration at FDR Park

Located adjacent to Philadelphia International Airport. (PHL) and the Philadelphia Navy Yard, the project transformed 29 acres of underutilized parkland into a thriving tidal wetland ecosystem, delivering flood protection, water quality improvements, and habitat along the Atlantic Flyway, while maintaining continuous public park access throughout construction.
The team implemented revolutionary material management techniques for 180,000 cubic yards of excavation, achieving 85% on‑site reuse through rigorous testing, sorting, and handling protocols—reducing disposal costs and environmental impact.
Tectonic also integrated historic preservation by retrofitting two 1930s brick arch culverts with modern tide gate structures, balancing cultural heritage with contemporary environmental performance.
Over 44,000 trees, shrubs, and plants were procured and installed to establish resilient tidal wetland habitat that enhances stormwater management, filters urban runoff, and provides long‑term carbon sequestration.
Interpretive features and viewing areas enrich environmental education and recreation for South Philadelphia residents, showcasing how mitigation requirements can become enduring community assets.
Working within Class B airspace and an active public park, Tectonic’s construction phasing maintained access while coordinating tide cycles, seasonal plantings, and park usage, delivering the project on schedule and within budget and meeting all regulatory mitigation requirements. Post‑construction monitoring confirms successful vegetation establishment and ecosystem function, supported by adaptive management protocols.
This Platinum Award highlights our team’s ability to merge aviation safety, historic preservation, and large‑scale environmental restoration without pausing community life. PHL’s wetland is now a resilient, living system that protects neighborhoods, enriches biodiversity, and elevates the standard for urban mitigation projects.
PS105 New Addition Exterior Restoration Project

This project for the NYC School Construction Authority focused on transforming a deteriorating 1960 school into a certified green building through innovative engineering and sustainable practices.
Originally constructed in 1962, PS105’s three-story addition had suffered decades of deterioration, resulting in water intrusion, energy inefficiency, and compromised indoor environmental quality. Tectonic’s comprehensive restoration approach transformed the 45,000-square-foot facility into a certified Green building, setting new benchmarks for sustainability in New York City schools.
Key Innovations
Sustainability Achievements
The project achieved Green building certification through integrated strategies including advanced insulation, water conservation systems, low-VOC materials, and improved indoor air quality. Construction waste diversion reached 85%, and locally sourced materials minimized environmental impact.
Community Impact
Beyond technical excellence, PS105 now serves as a living sustainability classroom, with visible solar installations and green design features inspiring students and educators. Post-occupancy evaluations confirm improved thermal comfort, air quality, and operational efficiency, creating a healthier, high-performance learning environment.
Javits Center Photovoltaic & Battery Systems: Advancing Grid Resilience Through Solar Innovation

Located on Manhattan’s West Side, the Javits Center is home to a 6.75-acre green roof, a thriving habitat supporting 29 bird species, 5 bat species, and 300,000 honeybees. The challenge: install 34 solar arrays and battery storage systems without disturbing this sensitive ecosystem. Tectonic achieved this through groundbreaking engineering that harmonizes renewable energy generation with ecological preservation.
Tectonic leveraged existing HVAC concrete curbs as mounting platforms for custom solar canopies, eliminating the need for new foundations and protecting the green roof’s integrity. Advanced structural analysis using RISA-3D and Ansys ensured compliance with ASCE 7 and NYC Building Code standards, delivering a robust and efficient design.
The project navigated complex environmental regulations, including SEQRA and CEQR compliance, and partnered with NYC Audubon to safeguard migratory bird populations. Elevated solar panels not only generate clean energy but also create microclimates that enhance habitat diversity, a true synergy of technology and ecology.
This installation reduces grid dependency during peak demand, strengthens Manhattan’s energy resilience, and serves as a replicable model for sustainable urban development. It demonstrates that renewable energy goals and ecological stewardship can coexist, setting a new benchmark for green infrastructure nationwide.
Ingersoll Houses: Exterior Restoration, Rebuilding the Community Brick by Brick

The NYCHA Ingersoll Houses located at Fort Greene, Brooklyn, exterior restoration project represents a transformative breakthrough in occupied building rehabilitation, successfully restoring four deteriorating 21-story towers serving over 1,200 residents while maintaining zero displacement throughout construction. Tectonic Engineering’s revolutionary approach addressed eight decades of structural deterioration, concrete spalling, and building envelope failure while reimagining traditional construction methodologies to prioritize community stability and resident wellbeing and establishing new national standards for public housing restoration. The project demonstrates how innovative structural engineering can address complex urban challenges while maintaining community stability.
Tectonic Engineering led a multidisciplinary team in addressing severe building envelope deterioration that threatened structural integrity and resident safety. The project’s unique challenge lay in executing complete exterior restoration while maintaining full occupancy throughout the 36-month construction period. The restoration achieved remarkable success: final costs came in 8% under budget, the construction timeline was maintained despite complex coordination requirements.
We extend our sincere appreciation to ACEC New York for this esteemed recognition and to our clients and partners for their collaboration. We look forward to celebrating engineering excellence at the awards gala!
