As co-founder of Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, D.P.C., Donald Benvie continues to be the driving force in the on-going growth and success of Tectonic into one of the most respected New York-based engineering and construction management companies serving private and public agency clients from the east to west coasts. Under his leadership, Tectonic expanded its services from its keystone geotechnical engineering to its current and comprehensive professional offering of multi-disciplined engineering; surveying and mapping; and construction support services for multifarious design and construction projects.

As President and CEO, Mr. Benvie spearheads strategic planning initiatives, develops tactical growth plans, and oversees corporate management of finance, marketing, business development and corporate support with regional offices. Don is heavily involved in the oversight of Tectonic’s heavy civil and infrastructure projects for public sector clientele in the metro NYC area involving site development, roads and bridges, mass transit, aviation facilities, and marine structures. Mr. Benvie’s technical expertise focuses on pile and caisson foundations, embankment construction, development of geotechnical design criteria, design of support of excavation (SOE) systems, and tunneling methodology utilizing tunnel boring machines (TBM), micro tunneling and conventional blast and drill.

Mr. Benvie is a licensed professional engineer in New York and 28 other states and territories as well as a professional geologist licensed in New York. He earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Idaho and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University.

During a career spanning over 40 years, Mr. Benvie has been an active member of professional societies and associations influencing the presiding regulations, standards and dynamics that affect the day-to-day operations of the industry. Mr. Benvie is an Associate Member for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); Member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE); past Chapter President for New York’s Orange/Sullivan County Chapter of NSPE; Member of the ASCE Drilled Shaft Standards Committee; Member of the International Association of Foundation Drilling Contractors and the Deep Foundation Institute (ASFE), an d member of the Underground Contractors Association of the Society of Mining Engineers (UCA of SME).
