Having outgrown its original 1961 Town Hall and addition, the Town of Orangetown selected Lothrop Associates and their team of consultants to design a new multi-story, 35,000 square foot addition that consolidates and improves services in one location (Municipal Offices, Police Headquarters, and Municipal Court). Once construction of the new addition is largely complete, the original 1961 structure will be demolished and the parking field expanded to support over 250 vehicles. As part of the design team, Tectonic provided geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, hazardous materials, and site/civil engineering roles. Services included:
Geotechnical Investigation: Performed a program of 9 test borings (drilling, sampling, observation, and logging),
evaluation of the encountered subsurface conditions, and reporting for the new addition. Recommendations included shallow spread and continuous wall footings for the building and a preliminary design was provided for a geosynthetic-reinforced soil retaining wall.
Environmental Documentation:
Hazardous Materials:
Site/Civil: Redesigned the existing site to accommodate the new facility, expanded parking, new water/sewer services, and new circulation patterns. Intricate planning of the project phasing was required to maintain existing operations and access during construction. The project also employed green infrastructure through rainwater harvesting for the new irrigation system. A detailed stormwater pollution prevention plan was developed for implementation during construction.
