The Youth Opportunity Union (YOU) is a proposed multi-use community center that will house a pool and community space for public activities located at the former site of the YMCA, at 35 Montgomery Street, in the City of Poughkeepsie. The proposed new building will occupy most of the northern and eastern quadrants of the property. In the southwestern quadrant of the site, the existing retaining wall will be removed, and the area will be regraded to consist of park areas, with various cuts and fills. Scope elements included review of existing documents; drilling, sampling, and logging of fifteen (15) test borings, plus three (3) alternate borings, drilled adjacent to the originals after obstructions prevent completion of those borings to their required depths; installation of two (2) temporary groundwater observation wells to obtain groundwater measurements at the site; performance of laboratory testing of soil and rock samples to assist in the evaluation of the engineering properties and field classifications of the encountered soils and bedrock at the site; geotechnical engineering analyses of the subsurface conditions as they relate to the design and construction of the proposed building and site improvements; preparation of a geotechnical report, presenting our geotechnical recommendations for the design and construction of proposed new development.

In addition, environmental testing was performed to characterize the site soils for preliminary disposal determination and a preliminary geothermal investigation was completed to determine the feasibility of using the technology at the site.
