Tectonic completed a subsurface investigation and geotechnical evaluation for a new terminal building located at the Sullivan County International Airport, County Road 183A, White Lake, Sullivan County, New York. The proposed new terminal building, with a partial below grade cellar, will have an approximate ground floor footprint of 10,000 square feet (sf), and is to be located within an undeveloped land parcel, northeast of the existing main terminal building.

The subsurface investigation consisted of the drilling, sampling, and logging of four (4) test borings in the area of the proposed building to depths ranging from 2 to 8 feet below existing ground surface. All drilling, sampling, and logging of the borings and test pits were observed on a full-time basis by a Tectonic representative, working under the supervision of a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of New York. The representative observed the drilling operations, subsurface investigation, classified soil, and rock samples as they were recovered, collected representative samples for laboratory testing, and prepared logs of the soil and rock conditions encountered. Laboratory testing was performed on select soil samples to assist in evaluating the engineering properties of the soil and to verify in the classification of the soils. A geotechnical engineering evaluation of the subsurface conditions as they relate to the proposed building’s foundations were performed. A geotechnical report was then prepared, which presented the results of the subsurface investigation, laboratory testing, engineering analyses, and geotechnical recommendations for the design and construction of the building’s foundations.
