Why are updated Emergency Management Plans important?
It is necessary to continually update your municipality’s Emergency Management capabilities in order to respond to the latest hazards, and develop the required capabilities needed to adequately respond to these hazards.
Why should a Hazard Assessment be completed in conjunction with Emergency Planning?
A Threat Assessment establishes which natural and man-made hazard are applicable to your community and permits your community to focus on developing the resources necessary to respond to those hazards.
What Emergency Management services can Tectonic provide to my municipality?
Tectonic can provide the following services to your community:
- Threat Assessment

Why do we need Evacuation Planning?
Recent events have reinforced the need for each community to have an updated evacuation plan to respond to natural and man-made hazards. Evacuation planning is one of the fundamentals of a homeland security plan that is paramount in saving lives during emergency situations and pending disasters.
What is included in an Evacuation Planning Program?
An integrated Evacuation Planning Program includes:
- Municipal-wide Evacuation
- Building Evacuation
- Citizen “Safe” Staging, Rally and Reception Areas
How will my municipality know if our current Evacuation Planning is adequate?
Tectonic can perform an independent review of your municipality’s evacuation program and provide you with a report that delineates potential gaps in the plan. If necessary, recommendations for improvements and updates to your evacuation plan will be provided.
What are some of the steps in the Development of an Evacuation Plan?
An evacuation plan is typically comprised of the following steps:
- Establishing Population Demographics and Trip Generation
- Conducting Road and Bridge Inventories
- Evacuation Design Basis Scenarios
- Determining Potential Evacuation Routes
- Evacuation Times based on Dynamic Modeling
- Traffic Management Plans
- Needs Assessments for Special Groups
- End-point Receptor Analysis
- Training and Exercises
Public safety has always been one of the key missions of municipal government. Recent disasters resulting from both man-made hazards, including the 911 events and the Oklahoma City bombing, and the natural hazards such as hurricane Katrina and the 2004 Tsunami, have resulted in significant loss of life and property, as well as interruption of public services. Therefore, the importance of public safety has been elevated as the number one priority, resulting in public safety and homeland security being integrated into a synergistic effort. Tectonic's engineers, emergency managers and security specialists have been working with municipalities for over twenty years providing public safety services.
